Choosing your effects
There are 2 types of effects that are mostly used with these projectors…Wheels
and Cassettes.
The effect wheels are 6 inches in diameter and are available as
Picture Wheels
or Liquid Wheels.
These wheels need a Wheel
Rotator to drive them. There are various speed rotators, but
the most useable is ½ RPM.
Effect
cassettes come in two formats. 3” and 50mm.
3” Cassettes
The 3” format has been around since the early 70’s and
as such there are thousand of machines in use that use 3”
rotators. The main drawback to this format is that they are prone
to separating in prolonged use and have been known to fall off their
rotators!! As so many people just live with these eccentricities,
they are still manufactured. Also, it would be a major expense to
have to replace all your rotators
and cassettes so Opti are to be applauded for still supporting what
is, in effect, a superseded product.
50mm Cassettes
The 50mm Cassettes are much more user friendly in our opinion. They
use a simple “Snap fit” Cassette
Rotator and seem to wear much better in long-term use. These
cassettes are cheaper than the 3” version, but the rotators
are more expensive.
We have phased out 3” cassettes in our hire stock in favour
of the 50mm format as we have found them a better product all round.
Both 3” and 50mm versions are available in Moire effect and
Liquid.
So, have a browse around the shop
and enjoy the experience.
